“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”

So as a part of my poetry class’ community outreach project, some students have decided to post poems in public, which I think is a great idea. Right after walking out from class, I came across this fantastic picture and poem. (click the picture if you can’t read it)
I hope that I can in someway affect someones life. My readership is low, and even if that one person comes by and takes something away from an idea I have presented, then my mission is complete.
“Stop thinking the grand narratives we’ve been told and start seeing the reality we experience.”
So here is another idea I present. No this is not new, but it is important. We’ve been conditioned to believe that things are suppose to be a certainway. That friendships are only friendships if they are a certain way. That weddings can only be “authentic” if it is with the white dresses. That smart people get good grades. That the aesthetic is more important than everything else. That we can solve all our problems.
These are wrong. Start seeing the world not for what it should look like from what we’ve been told, but for what we’ve seen it as.
“How will photographing Native artists benefit Native people? you see this basic kind of question in various guises on the “human study” portion on grant applications, and you hear it debated on talk shows and in churches. Politicians use it as a ploy because they know that political memory is not even short term. Advertisers transform the question into a glimmering promise that if you buy their products – deodorants, frozen pizzas, magic beans – your life will improve. It is the great Western come-on. The North American Con. the Caucasoid Sting.”

1 Corinthians 15:33 – Do not be misled; bad company corrupts good character
Choose your friends wisely.
There must be some way out of here, said the joker to the thief,
Theres too much confusion, I cant get no relief.
Businessmen, they drink my wine, plowmen dig my earth,
None of them along the line know what any of it is worth.
No reason to get excited, the thief, he kindly spoke,
There are many here among us who feel that life is but a joke.
But you and i, weve been through that, and this is not our fate,
So let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late.
All Along the Watchtower, Bob Dylan
