  • Go on a couple weekend travels
  • Get sponsors and raise a ton of money for the Richmond BCSPCA‘s Paws for a Cause
  • Figure out what I want to do with the rest of my ife (ie: Urban Planning in Grad schools, etc)

Montreal, yous crazy.

Montreal

So I just came back on tuesday  from a 6 day stint in Montreal for the Easter long week-end. I was talking with my friend Ivy and was like “I just realized I have a 6 day weekend…I should come visit you in Montreal.” That was basically how I ended up going. Everyone who knows me, knows that this is very out of character as I’m usually a pretty boring/not adventurous person, but I’m glad I made the trip.

Montreal

Montreal was amazing. This was the first time I’ve really visited a city outside of BC (apart from Layovers in Toronto) and I had the time of my life. Arriving to a 24 degree summer-like day, the city was incredible and packed with people walking and enjoying the weather. The streets reminded me of a psuedo Canadian/French Paris/Vancouver (if that made sense). My photos don’t do the city justice (this is only the first batch) because I was too busy looking at everything and enjoying the sights to really focus on taking pictures (whoops). But anyways, thanks to all the amazing people I met on the trip, you all made it extremely memorable. Montreal, as cheesy as it sounds, pretty life altering, in my eyes. This was the first time I’ve done some ‘adventurous’ traveling and I know it won’t be my last. It was a nice reminder to just chill out, step out of your comfort zone and meet some awesome people.

Everybody is just a stranger but
that’s the danger in going my own way
I guess it’s the price I have to pay

is no reason not to ask myself

Not enough words, nor pictures can describe how incredible this concert was. It was everything I expect and much more. I feel sometimes like his lyrics speak for my heart, like I don’t need to say anything, just listen to his music and it is enough. Awesome start to my long-weekend. Leaving tomorrow morning to Montreal, it’s going to be great. Have a great weekend everyone!

Vancouver Biennale: Miss Mao Trying to Poise Herself at the Top of Lenin’s Head

So after failing at studying, I decided to take some pictures around Richmond. I’ve been meaning to go and check out Miss Mao after all the controversy it was recently causing about promoting communism among other things. But isn’t that what art is suppose to do? Challenge the way we think about things and stir up conversation/debate? The rest of the pictures are at the Miss Mao set on Flickr.

Here goes nothing!

First Attempt, originally uploaded by Jon Chiang.

So this is my first attempt with some off camera flash/portraiture. I wanted to white out the background and managed to do in my other pictures, but I liked this one! The backgrounds still a bit grey but next time I’ll get it completely white. Oh yeah, did I mention the 2010 Olympics are coming to Vancouver? yeah.

So….for some reason or another, these heads suddenly appeared in front of Lansdowne. There was no information about them, but a lot of interested people. It reminded me of the power art has on a community as I saw over 20 people come walking by and asking questions about the sculpture. Who made them? What’s it made out of? Is this part of the Olympics? This event showed me the value of art in our community and its ability to get people talking and questioning.
